b-spokes mission is to save CO2 emissions
Member focus: This month we're highlighting the work of Edinburgh pedicab company, b-spokes.

b-spokes continues to promote the eco friendly message and is now also doing this through the b-spokes delivery service that it offers clients. b-spokes deliveries is a joint venture between b-spokes promotions, the largest rickshaw promotion and passenger transport company in the UK and Pronto Pedal Power Delivery. b-spokes deliveries is the first dedicated cargo delivery company in Scotland and largest cargo bicycle delivery service, working with local business and blue chip companies alike to deliver their envelopes, packages, parcels and produce in a more environmentally sensitive manner. At the same time, deliveries are often quick and more efficient by bike with the ability to use bus lanes and cycle lanes to avoid city centre traffic congestion hot-spots
b-spokes deliveries is now working with DHL, one of the largest delivery companies to provide them with pedal powered city centre deliveries. In just one day, b-spokes deliveries covered an area of approximately 17 miles, dropping off thirty five packages, saving approximately 6.5kg of CO2 emissions which would equate into a saving of approximately 0.59 gallons of fuel. By working with global courier carriers, b-spokes can help them to reduce their environmental impact by converting last mile deliveries to delivery bicycle rather than by van.
By using bikes for deliveries and passenger transport allows b-spokes to access all areas (including those restricted to motor traffic) to offer clients a true door to door service, is low emission zone compliant, nimble and fast throughout the city centre and is not restricted by rush hour parking restrictions or concerned about receiving parking tickets.
The b-spokes team shares a passion for pedal power and protecting the environment. Their aim is to encourage greater use of bikes to promote a more sustainable future by helping to reduce carbon emissions. In keeping with their environmentally friendly ethos, b-spokes has just moved into new business premises which feature eco-friendly features such as solar panels, recycled water and energy saving products. Being environmentally friendly is of paramount importance to the business who consistently endeavour to use energy saving products and work with local suppliers such as British bikes in order to reduce carbon emissions and transport.
Last year b-spokes became members of Transform Scotland and Cycling Scotland as part of their aim to make cycling seen as a more attractive way to get about everyday.
b-spokes rickshaws have become part of the fabric of Edinburgh and are seen all over town transporting revellers from pubs to clubs or picking guests up from hotels.
The promotional rickshaws offer passengers a fun, personalised and engaging transport experience, whilst branded rickshaws and ad bikes provide businesses with eye-catching, cost-effective and stand-out advertising solutions. Eco-friendly advertising shows commitment from a client for being green and wanting to be environmentally friendly. b-spokes recently worked with SSE, providing them with 20 branded rickshaws for the opening week of the SSE Hydro, Scotland’s new venue in Glasgow for live entertainment. The b-spokes team has extensive experience of providing transport and delivery solutions to blue chip companies as well as local businesses and will continue to work with a range of local and national businesses.
Most of the rickshawers or pedicabbers, as they are known, are keen cyclists. A host of the riders regularly go on long tours via bikes and this winter there are a number of team heading out to Tenerife for a week long ‘holiday’ which will consist of a whole week worth of riding and a race to the top of the Teide!
The mission for b-spokes pedal powered promotions and pedal powered deliveries is to offer sustainable transport options and to change the way people think about cycling and protecting the environment.
