Healthy Transport briefing published
Good health is regarded by the majority of people, as one of the most important things in our lives; despite this far too frequently the relationship between our health and the way we travel is overlooked by policymakers. This briefing outlines the relationship between transport and health, showing how transport policy can directly influence health in both positive - through better exercise from more walking and cycling - and negative ways - such as risk of road accidents, obesity, and air/noise pollution. This paper also highlights the cost of ill-health to the Scottish economy and how increased investment in Active Travel provides good value for money, when compared to wasteful and harmful road building schemes.
