BT joins Transform Scotland
Transform Scotland today (Monday 23rd February 2009) welcomed their newest membership organisation, BT Scotland, highlighting the importance that information technology plays in delivering sustainable transport.
Paul Tetlaw, Chair of Transform Scotland, said:
"We are delighted to welcome BT to our membership."Our work to promote sustainable transport covers all the many and varied ways that we can adapt our lifestyles for a future where carbon dioxide emissions will have to be radically reduced. Some of those changes are very local in nature such as the provision of safe walking and cycling routes to local facilities. Others involve the use of new technologies to reduce the need for travel, in this latter context BT Scotland are the ideal player and we look forward to working with them to demonstrate the benefits of IT systems."Brendan Dick, Director BT Scotland [1], said:
"Transform Scotland is an effective voice for all organisations with an interest in a more sustainable transport system for Scotland. By developing campaigns and building consensus, they have become a powerful and effective advocate for a future less reliant on cars, road freight and air."If Scotland truly aspires to be a world leader in sustainable economic growth, businesses, individuals and policy makers need to look to alternatives to the motor car. By changing the way we work, and making more use of IT, businesses can reduce employees travel requirements, minimise their organisation’s carbon impact and make savings to the bottom line; whilst an increase in cycling, walking and use of public transport will help make Scotland a healthier and greener place to live. "Transform Scotland is to be applauded for its pursuit of this goal."
