Call for UK climate bill to tackle aviation emissions

Transform Scotland have today called on people to make their views known to their MP that the UK Climate Change Bill must include emissions from aviation and shipping.

On Tuesday next week (28th October 2008), the Commons will vote on the Bill. While the UK Government has recently conceded that the Bill should bring about an 80% reduction in emissions (rather than the 60% reduction previously planned), it is still resisting pressure for the Bill to include aviation and shipping emissions. This is in contrast with the Scottish Government, which within the past week has indicated that these emissions will be counted within the forthcoming Scottish Climate Change Bill.
