Climate change adaptation response published
Transform Scotland have published their response to the Scottish Government's consultation on its climate change adaptation strategy.
Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said:
"Transport policy is widely held to be the basket case of climate policy. The Scottish Government's proposed strategy for climate change adaptation is admirable in and of itself, but is essentially meaningless until such time that transport investment decisions are taken on the basis of their carbon impacts. It is deeply unfortunate that all of the recent key decisions taken by the Scottish Government in the field of transport policy diminish the prospects of Scotland delivering successful climate change adaptation policies.
"Our response argues that the Government needs to see climate change adaptation as more than a narrow, technical exercise in designing and maintaining transport infrastructure, and instead see it as the catalyst for delivering resilient, low-carbon, sustainable communities."
