Comment on East Coast franchise being taken back by UK Government
Paul Tetlaw, chair of Transform Scotland, said:
"As the Government has now decided to take ownership of the East Coast franchise we now hope to see many of the cuts in service being reversed.
"It is essential that this key route from Scotland to London provides a high quality alternative to the airlines if we are to persuade more people to take the environmentally friendly option of the train. Never has this been more important than now as Parliaments both north and south of the border have enacted climate change legislation.
"We look forward to the Government bringing forward proposals for improved journey times alongside enhanced on-train service."
