Designing Streets consultation response

Transform Scotland have today published their response to the Scottish Government consultation paper Designing Streets.

Transform Scotland director Colin Howden said:

"With this paper, the Scottish Government has set out a very welcome policy direction. It calls for 20mph to be the maximum traffic speed in new housing developments, and for planners to give the 'place' function of streets at least as high priority as the needs of 'movement'.

"What will be the test of this policy is how far, and how fast, it leads to a transformation in the quality of streets in Scottish residential areas. There has been almost no progress on this topic over the past decade and it is high time that priorities changed to treat the need of people over that of cars."
