Electrification plans will deliver major improvements for rail travellers
Commenting on today's launch by Network Rail of the plans for the
Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP), Paul Tetlaw, Transform Scotland board member, said:
"We welcome the launch of the formal consultation on the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP). This offers a significant improvement for rail journeys across the Central Belt and should encourage many more people to leave their cars behind and take the train."We face very tough climate change targets and the need to reduce our dependency on oil. Electrification of this key part of the rail network will help on both counts."
