Government double standards on investment

Responding to Scottish Government's ambition to spend £3 billion on dualling the A96 on top of its plans to spend £3 billion on dualling the A9, Transform Scotland director Colin Howden said:

"The Scottish Government now intends to squander £6 billion on damaging new road schemes. This is at the same time as it is cutting investment in bus services and failing to make available the funds required to meet its own target for increasing cycle use.

"It appears completely oblivious to the double standard of launching a campaign telling people to 'leave the car' in the same week as promising billions for roads that will generate vast quantities of new car journeys.

"The priority should be fixing the existing road network. Doing that would benefit all road users and would see contracts more likely to be won by Scottish companies."
