Heading in the Right Direction?

Transform Scotland has published its commentary on the manifestos of the five main political parties for the 2011 Scottish Parliament elections. The paper, Heading in the Right Direction?, focuses on four key issues on which we have lobbied the parties:

  • Active travel
  • Smartcard
  • Freight on rail
  • Road-building

Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said:

"We're pleased to see that four of the five parties have taken up, to varying degrees, the first three of these issues. Whoever forms the next government, this will give us lots to work with during the next Parliament.

"The continued attachment of four of the parties to a multi-billion pound road-building programme remains a concern. As the public spending cuts begin to bite, we will be making the case that these climate-destroying projects should be chopped so that investment in sustainable transport can be enhanced."
