Impacts of aviation mustn't be ignored
Transform Scotland has today submitted its response to the Scottish Government's 'Priorities for Change' consultation on Scottish Planning Policy (SPP).
Colin Howden, Transform Scotland Director, said:
"The current version of SPP only notes the claimed economic benefits of aviation. It completely fails to mention the vast negative environmental damage caused by aviation.
"This omission spoils what is otherwise a good policy document. In earlier versions of this document, the Scottish Government recognised the negative impacts of aviation. Given that the Scottish climate change act sets out a legal requirement to reduce emissions, it is unacceptable for Scottish planning guidance to remain so deeply biased and uncritical with respect to the most polluting form of transport."
