Mixed results for sustainable transport

Commenting on today's publication of the 2010 edition of 'Scottish Transport Statistics', the government's principal annual transport statistics publication, Transform Scotland director Colin Howden said:

"It's good to see Scotland's railways and ferries continue to grow patronage, with 0.7% and 3.4% growth, respectively. The levels of walking and cycling also appear to have generally grown, albeit by a small degree, while the falls in road and air traffic will certainly help Scotland meet its climate change targets for this year.

"However, a fall in bus use of 5% in one year is quite alarming. The bus market has shown growth in recent years, so this is a disappointing result."
