More of Edinburgh's Green Belt lost to road-building
Commenting on today's
opening of the Dalkeith Northern Bypass, Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland said:
"This project, carved through Dalkeith Park, has further damaged Edinburgh's Green Belt. The new road simply represents more subsidy for car commuting."Evidence from other bypass projects is that any temporary reductions in traffic are eroded because of the extra traffic generated by the new road. We fully expect traffic levels in Dalkeith to return to their current levels."Given the poor development control exercised by Midlothian Council, we now await the appearance of even more out-of-town car-dependent tin sheds alongside the City Bypass."
