Response to Sustrans school travel survey launch
Responding to the launch by Sustrans of the results of the first-ever Scottish national survey into school travel, Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said:
“It’s no surprise to me that when walking and cycling to school is made more safe, more convenient or more affordable, that the number of children walking and cycling to school increases – I think that’s been obvious for a long time. However, it’s great that we now have unequivocal proof of this.”
“It’s clear that Sustrans has put the Scottish Government’s money to good use. However, I don’t see any more money in the pipeline from the Scottish Government for this type of work. Given just how successful Sustrans’ programme of projects with schools has been, the Scottish Government should consider continuing and scaling up its funding for this type of work, to enable Sustrans, and other, similar organisations, to work with every school in Scotland and get even more Scottish children travelling to and from school sustainably, actively and healthily.”
