Sleeper service is a wonderful asset for Scotland

Transform Scotland's rail campaigner Paul Tetlaw said:

"We welcome the co-operation between the Scottish Government and Westminster to save the Scottish sleeper services. What is now needed is a clear development programme for these services to ensure that they meet the needs of travellers in the 21st century.

"The sleeper service is a wonderful asset for Scotland; it provides an alternative to flying and can act as a real boost to the tourism industry in rural parts of Scotland.

"What a fantastic experience it is to join the train in London, enjoy a wee nightcap before bed and wake up to breakfast while crossing Rannoch Moor.

"We now need to see concerted marketing of these services with the rail industry working in partnership with the many players in the tourism sector."
