Transform Scotland signs up for 'No Mega Trucks' campaign

Transform Scotland have today signed up to the Europe-wide 'No Mega Trucks' campaign. This campaign has been brought together to oppose the mooted introduction of new lorries of up to 60 tonnes in weight.

Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said:

"Mega-trucks, which go by a variety of names, are being promoted all across Europe. Fortunately, so far, the Department for Transport has proven resistant to their introduction in Britain. But in the same way that the UK Government eventually capitulated to the road haulage industry and allowed 44 tonne lorries on British roads, it is likely that the industry will make further pushes for their monstrous vehicles to be allowed onto our roads. So it is important that there is a strong Europe-wide campaign to reject these damaging proposals."
