Welcome for electric vehicles announcement

In response to the Scottish Government's announcement on low carbon vehicles, Paul Tetlaw, Chair of Transform Scotland, said:

"We welcome the Government's proposals to fast track the move towards electric vehicles. We especially note the aim of converting all public sector vehicles by 2020 as it is clear to us that the public sector has a leading role to play in decarbonising our transport systems.

"However, we now need to see similar proposals for bringing about behaviour change to ensure that we all travel in a much greener way. Again the public sector has a huge role to play and we look to the Government to bring forward robust strategies and targets for increasing walking, cycling and public transport use. This will ensure that national and local government fully understands the vital role it needs to play in creating the right conditions for behaviour change.

"If the Government sets the right lead then we are confident that the private sector and public at large will follow.

"We can rightly congratulate our politicians for having the vision to pass world leading climate change legislation. We now need to see a set of transport policies that are equally visionary."
