Welcome for road safety plan

In welcoming the Scottish Government's new road safety framework, Paul Tetlaw, Chair of Transform Scotland, said:

"We welcome and fully concur with the Minister's statement on road safety.

"It is absolutely intolerable that people are still dying on our roads each day, and Scotland needs an ambitious vision in line with other leading countries in road safety.

"We look forward to detailed proposals being brought forward on 20mph zones in residential areas, reduced drink drive limits and and a more stringent testing regime.
There is absolutely no doubt that speed kills and the 281 deaths on the road in 2007 are just part of the story. Many more were seriously injured and many deterred from cycling by the reckless behaviour of a section of selfish motorists. The proposals for trials of hi-tech speed limiting devices are therefore another very welcome move."
